Framingham Fireworks Show Set for Friday

FRAMINGHAM - City officials will be holding the Stars and Stripes Over Framingham fireworks show on Friday, June 28, at Farm Pond Park from 5 to 10 p.m.

Last year’s celebration marked the first time that Framingham held a fireworks display in honor of Independence Day since 2000. Making the fireworks event a regular occurrence locally has been a goal of Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.

Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher explained that the city is hoping to make this year’s show even more memorable.

“We’ve been planning for about six months,” Dutcher said in an exclusive interview with The Frame.

“It’s about how long we plan for the Boston Marathon every year.”

The roughly 20-minute firework show will be preceded by musical performances from the group Decades by DeZyne, who will be singing a repertoire of tunes from Motown artists. This will be followed by performances by multiple groups within the 215th Army Band of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Members of the band will tell stories of the armed forces while honoring military veterans.

Dutcher advocated for more food trucks to be featured for attendees this year, as Stars and Stripes will have nineteen food trucks and vendors at Barbieri Elementary School. They will begin serving guests at around 5 p.m. before concluding services at 9 p.m. once the fireworks start to go up.

“I just want to make sure everybody comes ready to have a good time and have some fun,” Dutcher continued.

The event will be free to attend. Free parking will also be made available at Cushing Memorial Park, Keefe Regional Technical School, and off of Dr. Harvey Cushing Way starting at 4 p.m. Event organizers have advised motorists that they will be turned away from parking if they arrive too early. Dudley Road will be closed that day from Cushing Way to Fountain Street.

City officials have made it clear that alcohol will be prohibited from the event, along with glass containers, tents, umbrellas, hard coolers, and drones. Any bags brought to Stars and Stripes will be subject to search by the Framingham Police Department, while the Framingham Fire Department has also ordered that fire pits, grills, sparklers, and any additional pyrotechnics will not be permitted at the event.

“Leave fireworks to the professionals,” Dutcher said.

For those unable to attend, the event will be covered live on Access Framingham TV’s YouTube channel and aired later on their cable channels. To find out where to watch AFTV on your TV and to find a live stream of the channel, click here.

The community group Keep Framingham Beautiful is looking for volunteers to help clean up Farm Pond Park following the celebration on Saturday, June 29, from 9 to 11 a.m.. Anyone interested in assisting those efforts can fill out this Google Form.
